A strange subject maybe, but do you know that
once the interviewer has gauged your overall appearance, the
first specific which he or she will look at is your hair? Not a
lot of people know that, as they say.
Firstly, wigs, sorry hairpieces. Now, I am
not against wigs, but here is my experience of such matters.
If you really feel you need to wear one, make sure it doesn't
look like one. You must invest in one that doesn't
look like a hairpiece. If there is any doubt in the
interviewers mind, he or she will be side tracked, trying to
decide whether it is or it isn't - probably for the entire
interview. It will then be a major topic of conversation
when you go, was it or wasn't it?
Curiosity killed the cat and it will kill your chances too.
Also, be careful colouring your hair. Yes,
you will look younger, and that can be good, but in all honesty,
if the lines on your face say fifty-five and your hair is jet
black, again you will arouse the curiosity of the interviewer.
These matters are really quite simple. Ask
yourself how you would react put in the same situation. I
have recruited for many of the U.K's top executives and never
has either grey hair or baldness been seen as a negative.
Therefore, you should not treat it as such; a little common
sense will go a long way in this area.
