How To Get The Job You Really
Really Want - Where To Find Jobs - Companies of Special Interest
This one is really down to you. I can remember two
instances in my career where I have singled out companies of special
interest to me. Companies that for one reason or another, at that
stage of my career, I really wanted to work for. A company can be
of special interest for any number of reasons.
Perhaps the company specialise in products that are
of particular interest to you. Perhaps they offer special training.
Perhaps they are market leaders and you want to be associated with
them. Perhaps they just pay well, but for some reason that company
holds a special interest for you. Hopefully you get the idea.
In my experience you will already know a lot about
this company, because they hold a special interest for you, and it
is normally that interest that promotes the desire to work for the
company. All I would say about this particular area is the
following;-
-
Find out as much as you
can about the company
-
Get and review as much
company literature as you can
-
Try and speak to current
employees and find out what it's like to work there
-
Don't let yourself be
"blinded" by the desire to work there
-
Treat an interview the
same as you would any other
-
After any interview make
doubly sure you still want to join
It is very, very easy to be blinded by the desire to
work for a company and not to see obvious warts. In general,
however, the enthusiasm and genuine interest you show for such a
potential employer will stand you in very good stead.
Right, that completes this section, so as promised we
can now move onto my old favourite, the Recruitment Agency.
